We currently need a total annual income of about CA$153,000/US$125,000 (at 2009 exchange rates). Go to Finances at the left to see what this required income covers.

Our 2008 donor records show we had an annual income of CA$147,548/US$120,500. This means that for 2008 we were undersupported by about CA$5,450/US$5000. For a glimpse of our actual income versus required income since 2001, see the graph below (click to enlarge). Blue column indicates actual income. Red column indicates required income (or goal).

Apparently our income in 2008 was negatively affected by...

• ...the 30% increase of the yen against both the CA$ and the US$ during the last quarter of 2008 (thus increasing the amount of dollars required for living in Japan);
• ...a decrease of about 20% of the CA$ against the US$;
• ...a 15% drop in dollar income from our North American support base;
• ...and by an unexpected increase in Japanese national and city taxes for foreigners who live in Japan longer than 5 years in any 10 year period.

When we are fully supported, our ministry expenses are covered by our budgeted ministry expense account and our salary is for our personal use (food, clothing, etc.). However, during our current months of undersupport we must personally subsidize our ministry expenses from our salary. Nevertheless, God continues to be faithful to us and to meet our every need. We are seeking ways of creatively reducing our living and ministry expenses, and we are trying to increase our yen-generated income. We are planning to take a one year home assignment beginning the summer of 2010. During that time we hope to seek additional financial (and prayer) support so that we can continue our ministry in Tokyo.
