DALE 2006 Ministry Goals: Dale | Results During 2006: Dale | *Continue to help lead the new church plant at Tomioka, along with the pastor and the leaders of the mother church (Kodama EFC). | *We have a very good working relationship with the pastor of the mother church. Leading the project together in 2006 was a privilege. Yet there are some indicators that the work will not progress quickly and that the continued commitment of the key lay people might depend upon faster results. We shall see. | *Continue feeling out the possibility of and negotiate the beginning of a second part time church plant in partnership with another mother church in the Tokyo area. | *Discussed our second church planting placement several times with the pastor leading a group of three churches as they together try to plant a fourth. However, they want to buy a building before beginning the project. They have the money, but no property has become available. So they have not started the project yet. As long as they place such a high priority on the facility perhaps their understanding of church planting is at variance with ours. We continue to pray about this. | *Continue negotiations on establishing a Church Planting Institute of Theology at Tokyo Christian University. | *Negotiations have stalled on the matter of financial resources. Until TCU gets excited enough about the proposed institute to help fund it, I will not likely be able to establish it. So I need to do a better job of convincing TCU of the importance of such an institute. | *Continue publishing my quarterly column in Japan Harvest magazine, titled “Thinking Theologically About Church Planting” | *Done. Articles can be found at http://www.cptheo.net/ . | *Provide leadership to the partnership between the EFCCM and the EFC of Japan Central District (Nagoya) for the outreach English program of that district. | *Provided orientation for the new short term teacher in the fall of 2006, helped recruit the second teacher who arrived in Dec. Terms of service of both end in July 2007. Rewrote the partnership agreement, visited the Central District churches once, preaching in one of their churches and meeting with the program leaders for evaluation. | *Teach another semester of Contemporary Theology (in Japanese) to fourth year students at Japan Bible Seminary. | *Done. The first semester at JBS runs from March through October. | *Teach Theology of Church for one semester at Tokyo Christian University (in English for non-Japanese students). | *Done. The first semester at TCU runs from March through June. | *Attend the Evangelical Theological Society meeting in Nov in the US, while building relationships with North American seminaries. | *Done. I continue to seek opportunities to teach about church planting theology in various North American seminaries, while remaining based in Tokyo. This should help in recruitment of future church planting missionaries. At least that is the idea! |
2007 Ministry Goals for Dale *Together with the pastoral couple of the mother church at Kodama, seek God’s will for the future of our Tomioka church planting project and continue our evangelistic activities there. *Seek God’s direction, in discussion with Japanese pastors, for another church planting project to lead in the greater Tokyo area. *Try to get one of my theological articles published in a theological journal in North America. *Present a paper at the 2007 Evangelical Theological Society annual meeting (San Diego, CA, Nov 2007) on doing cross-cultural theology in Japan. *Continue providing leadership to the EFC of Canada Mission work in Japan by encouraging the EFC of Japan central district in their evangelistic English conversation classes using EFCCM short term tentmaking missionaries and by starting to develop similar partnerships with Tokyo area EFC congregations. *Continue teaching theology part time (adjunct) at Japan Bible Seminary and at Tokyo Christian University as requested. This is the leadership training aspect of our ministry. |
